For sure, you have been wondering how to do this, and I think that you have browsed the internet to find information on how to make money online as a writer. I’m glad you found my blog, and I hope you’ll find the following info useful.
Are you a writer? A blogger perhaps? Have you never written an article before, but would you like to? Would you like to write for a living? Do you think you “can’t write”, but would love to learn? Do you want to start a blog/website but don’t know how?
If the answer to any of the above questions is yes, then you have come to the right blog. I am a writer, I have published eight books and I have written several articles (online and for local magazines). Besides this one, I own two other websites (one of them an author website) and two Amazon author pages (under my real name and a pen name). In this post I will be sharing tips on generating income through writing content online.

1. Research For Articles – Not As Dry As It Sounds
Keywords are the key. Yes, before writing an article, you should research keywords and their use online. What does that involve?
Internet users type in keywords in any of the search engines, such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, and others. By finding keywords that are often typed in, there is a better chance of your article being found online. A wonderful tool to help you find those magical keywords is Jaaxy.
Jaaxy is a platform that was developed by affiliate marketers, which means that it is the best tool to have for anyone who is determined about generating an income through blogging. Jaaxy shows you the average number of searches per month for your keyword and it adds other useful information such as a keyword quality indicator, SEO, domains, and competing websites with that particular keyword.
In conclusion, Jaaxy is a platform that any serious online marketer should have.
2. Content Writing – No, Don’t Fret, No Boring School Essays
That being said, I actually like reading and writing essays, but not while I’m staring at a computer (or phone) screen, exhausting my eyes. It is best to read essays on printed paper or in a paperback volume, right? Well, that’s just my opinion, but for now let’s forget about essays and focus on content writing.
Many bloggers make the mistake of writing long texts with large paragraphs that look and sound like scientific dissertations. Not everyone likes to read that, unless you’re specifically looking for such texts. It is recommended that you avoid the dry discourse and write as if you’re talking to a friend. Besides, isn’t it easier to write in that way? It is more casual, and writing flows more naturally. It certainly does for me.
2.1. Separate, separate, separate!
Yes, indeed, cut up those long paragraphs, separate them into smaller ones. No one likes to look at a long text on a screen. Everyone needs a break, even a reading break; it’s like taking a small breath in between before continuing. My eyes start to water if I stare at long texts on my phone or computer screen, and I read with more effort. Although I love to read and I often read for hours on end, endless paragraphs look daunting and are not easy on the eyes.
So, I repeat, cut them up. Separate.
2.2. Write what you love
Writing flows more easily when you discuss your favorite topics, or subjects that you are knowledgeable and/or experienced in. You could also discuss themes that you may be less informed of but would love to learn about. In that case, you extensively research your topic, organize your findings, and start writing. By doing that, you’ll learn plenty and you’ll be able to share this newfound knowledge with your audience. Be always credible, and – when required – show your sources.
I always write about things I love. It’s definitely a bonus that I love writing 🙂 but choosing subject matters of your interest makes it more fun and less of a chore. Not that writing is a chore to me, but I can imagine that it may be for some. If you infuse your assignment with love and genuine interest, it will stop being a task and turn into joy.
Do what you love. Write what you love.
3. Use of Images – Photos Matter
After explaining why long paragraphs are a big NO NO, long texts with no photos are even more tedious. It is essential to include images that relate to your content. You can take your own photos and upload them (perhaps edit them if necessary) and there are also online platforms that offer thousands of images that you may download and use on your site.
Free images can be found on the following sites:
- Pixabay
- Wikimedia Commons
- Pexels
- Unsplash
There are more, but these four are pretty great to get you started. I personally love Pixabay and Unsplash. Try out all four and feel free to research more free image websites, to see which one is a better fit for you.

4. Affiliate Marketing Links – Don’t Stop Now, You can Learn This
To monetize your blog, affiliate marketing links are necessary. Depending on the niche of your blog, you insert affiliate links that are related to the content of your article. If you are writing about gardening, you should add affiliate links about gardening tools, decorative flower pots, and anything else that a serious gardener would want. If you’re blogging about vegan pizza, then you should include affiliate links about vegan cheese, vegan cookbooks, sauces, and anything that relates to this topic.
First of all, you need to sign up with affiliate programs. Amazon and ShareASale are good ones to start.
Do I earn a commission if you click and purchase/sign up on any of the links I share? Yes, I do, at no extra cost to you, and you can do the same thing. You could create your own blog, and turn it into your own online work from home that generates an income. A great place to learn the ropes is Wealthy Affiliate, which is where I learned everything there is to learn about setting up my website and affiliate marketing.
5. Social Media – Love Them or Hate Them?
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, Reddit, MeWe, Whatssapp, and so on … Nowadays there is a plethora of social media sites, too many to list, but the ones I mentioned here are the best known ones.
Facebook, where people share their lives, drama, tragedies, victories, what they eat, where they go, what they do, where they go on vacation … Scroll down on your wall and it’s like reading a newspaper, isn’t it?
Facebook is a great place to build a business page and get people to “like” your page. It offers promotion tools and paid ads which can work incredibly well, but the trick is to know how to use these paid ads. They don’t succeed for everyone. However, Facebook offers a course in how to place lucrative paid ads, so if you take this course, you will definitely learn how to target your audience and make your ads earn money for you.
Twitter is my personal favorite. Granted, its news feed is fast! When I first started my Twitter account, everything seemed confusing, and tweets moved at lightning speed. I often lost track of what was going on. And what was up with those 140 character tweets? That took some getting used to.
Now, I love Twitter. I have made many contacts there and increased my following. I’m on it every day, and even if I 
say so myself, I have gotten pretty good at cramming my tweets into a small amount of characters. By the way, Twitter has increased its character count per tweet, it is now 280 characters.
Additionally, Pinterest and Instagram are great social media platforms to share your business, websites, and blogs. LinkedIn is also growing in popularity.
So, write what you love and then share the love on any of the mentioned social media sites.

It doesn’t happen overnight, but if you put in the effort, and if you’re willing to be patient, your blog or website can earn you an online income. I tried, a while back, to start an online writing career but it just didn’t work out for me. Now that I am seeing this article I think that maybe it was due to a lack of enough research. I now understand that it not enough to write on a subject because it is popular because there are other factors to consider. Another thing I think was missing was insertion of images. The world has gotten so visual and images really draw a readers attention. I like to write, and I am thinking of getting back into it. Thank you for your suggestions.

Wealthy Affiliate is an excellent opportunity for somebody who is already a writing enthusiast. Putting your work on your own website certainly beats submitting it to editors. Another advantage is that if you sell an article to a publication you generally only get paid once, whereas if you put it on your own website, it can make you money for years.

Today I have learned something valuable. I was already thinking about writing a book. I often write articles for my websites and have trouble with my theme.
It is better to use a clean, tidy home site and not a big image; I still love it. It might slow down the speed. I see what theme you do use, and I will also try it out.:)

Social media is a crime for me. I’m not too fond of FB, but I use it. Twitter and Pinterest are great platforms for placing the content so people can follow and retweet or use the images. I heard that Instagram is also perfect, but I still need to find out how to use it.
I need to place more affiliate links on my articles, which gives me a headache. Finding the right affiliate platforms is overwhelming me.
